Co-founded by Mark Manson, three-time New York Times bestselling author and repeat AI founder Raj Singh, Purpose brings thoughtful mentorship to people at a scale that was never possible before. Since launching in Q4 2025, Purpose has grown quickly, growing to tens of thousands of new users within a month and supporting a global community. With strong foundations in place, we’re entering our next phase of growth and building a world-class team to help shape what comes next.
We treat everyone here as a product scientist—you're not implementing specs, you're responsible for whether this thing actually helps the people using it. We're looking for a Staff Engineer to own the data and AI systems that make Purpose trustworthy and effective.
Internally, we use Member of Technical Staff titles. It's a flat org where the best ideas win, not the loudest voice or highest title. You'll have real autonomy: keep the core systems running well, and you have freedom to run experiments, improve our AI, and pursue the work you think matters most. If you want to publish your findings, we'll support that.
Beyond your core ownership areas, you'll contribute to our AI and data science work—improving coaching quality, building evaluation systems, running experiments. We value people who stay close to the user experience and care about how the product actually feels, not just whether the code works. Expect roughly 60% on infrastructure and reliability, 40% on experiments and AI work—though that shifts based on what needs attention.
